Destruction of Romulus (Canon)
In 2387, a star near Romulus called Hobus went supernova, wiping the planet and all life on it out of the galaxy forever.
PF Aftermath Estimation
The Romulan Star Empire was taken from a thriving, powerful force to a few dozen thousand survivors scattered throughout the galaxy. While the Romulan government remains in some form, it's weakened, and many Romulans are just happy for a place to live and a chance to thrive after the destruction of their home world. All that is left of Romulus is an asteroid field where the planet once was. Starfleet has indicated that their may be future efforts to perform archaeological digs on the larger rocks in that field to see if any Romulan culture of relics can be found to help preserve the Romulans history.
