General Overview

The M-99 Hellfire was designed as a Marine Heavy Dropship that could deploy Marines, as well as provide cover while they deployed into a combat zone or high-risk deployment area. They are capable of providing cover fire, as well as breaching reinforced structures.

Designed late in the Dominion War, the M-99 Hellfire was one to be one of the primary mode of transportation for combat-deploying Marines. It saw limited use before the war was over but has remained in the arsenal of the Federation despite that.

With warp technology in place, the Hellfire Dropship can be launched from a starship a great distance from the deployment zone, navigate its own way in under the scan of radar and sensor sweeps, deploy its marines and provide them cover while they deploy, then get out quickly. It can also be deployed for emergency pickups and SAR in high-risk locations.

If a flight entry is not possible, the Hellfire is also equipped with a repulsor propulsion system to allow it to travel across rough terrain as well at high speeds. In situations such as these, the Hellfire could drop several kilometers outside of the deployment zone, and move across land to drop it's troops.

Currently, the Hellfire is assigned to Federation Starships with a Marine Contingent of 40 or more.

The following ships are eligible to carry an M-99 Hellfire Dropship: Lexington Class Akira Class Ascension Class Excalibur Class Insignia Class Nebula Class Ronin Class

Special Notes: M-99 Hellfire Dropship is only for use by Marines. Ships without Marine detachments are eligible for the M-99.
