Andoria, or Andor to the natives, is an icy moon in orbit of a gas giant. The entire world is covered in snow and ice, the temperature never going above freezing. Being a moon itself, Andoria has no natural satellites of its own. Underground caves in the Northern Wastes are the home of the Aenar. Andorian cities are closer to the equator, yet still underground, pulling energy from the moon itself.

Economy

Andoria’s economy is ruled by Starfleet and its engineering programs and also its art. Andorian textiles and art are highly sought after, especially Andorian silk and Andorian watercolors. A type of bat is harvested in the wild and is known for its distinctive reddish brown color. Andorian tuber root is also highly nutritious and used in many recipes offworld. Despite having plants it can produce, Andoria is dependent on the rest of the Federation for fresh food and on replicators. Another large source of income for Andoria is security training as Andorians take their military training very seriously compared to most other Federation races.

Geographical Data

The moon of Andoria is covered in snow and ice as the temperatures are usually well below freezing, around -100 Celsius. Most Andorian cities are located closer to the equator and are now underground so as to avoid the below freezing temperatures on the surface. Even hundreds of feet below, it is still quite cold in the cities, generally around 3 Celsius, the preferred temperature of the Andorians. In centuries past, they were on the surface and some Andorians still choose to live there today.

Thy'lin City
Thy'lin City is the largest Andorian city in history. Its architects have drawn inspiration from Aenar and Andorian nation-states past to in an effort to make it more beautiful, causing many Andorians to live there. There is a large population of Starfleet officers, past and present, and is the site for the Andorian Imperial Council. The Council meets in Hinlard building next to a statue of the past Andorian general, Shran. There are several statues of Uzaveh the Infinite, all different as no one is sure what the deity looks like. Indoor gardens adorn most public buildings and quite a few private businesses.

Northern Wastes
The Northern Wastes are the coldest, most desolate place on the moon. However, there are underground caverns where the Aenar live in warmth and comfort if one can find them. Most Andorian cities are located closer to the equator and are underground so as to avoid the below freezing temperatures on the surface. Even hundreds of feet below, it is still quite cold in the cities, generally around 3 Celsius, the preferred temperature of the Andorians.

History

In the ancient past, Andoria was ravaged by wars between the clans. Clans would fight one on one, or would make alliances only to break them the moment they were not needed. It got to be that the snow and ice ran blue with blood. Eventually, the Andorians started working together for the good of the people and their home, sometime around the mid-18th century. The first vessel to navigate the circumference of the moon was the ice cutter Kumari, which would be the namesake of many Andorian starships in the centuries to come. The first nation to reach the planet that Andoria orbited was not the richest, though it was thought that the richest would be able to do it first. Soon, the nation-state was growing more food on the planet and had food to export. They soon rose to be the dominant nation-state on the planet and eventually were the ones that unified the people when the Andorians met the Vulcans.

Andor achieved warp drive sometime in the early 20th century. First contact was with Vulcan, however, the two planets began a cold war that continued into the 22nd century. Andor eventually became allies with Earth, Vulcan, and Tellar in the mid-2100s, forming the Coalition of Planets. However, the Earth-Romulan War would shake the resolve of some of the people’s resolve as to whether they should be allies with the Humans. In 2154, the Andorians met a Tellarite ambassador on the planet Babel. Thus they began to slowly form the United Federation of Planets. The UFP was formed in 2164, Andoria one of the founding members. In 2286, Andoria held two seats on the Federation Council. Andorian politicians were known for standing for their electors. After the fall of Betazed in 2374, Andoria was a potential next target.
