Erik is quite lanky and thin compared to most Starfleet officers his age. This isn’t to suggest by any means that he lacks the necessary physical training to compete with his fellow officers, simply that on the surface, he’s underwhelming when it comes to muscle mass. Erik has slight rabbit ears, jet black eyes, and a creamy skin tone with no evidence of a tan at all. Erik is the average height and weight for his age and occupation.
Personality & Traits
The best word to describe Erik would be adventurous. Erik is the type of person to never back down from challenges, whether they be from other people or any environment around him. He absolutely loves exploring the vast reaches of space, and so the life of a Starfleet officer suits him extremely well. In fact, he doesn’t really consider exploration itself as an occupation, but part of his daily life. To him, it’s not work, it’s play. Erik can get himself in down and unhappy moods when having to stay still for extended periods of time. But as long as he knows he’s going somewhere new to him, he’s extremely happy and jovial.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Erik’s strong points would generally be his happy demeanor regarding his approach to life. His happiness is infectious, literally. As a Betazoid, he is able to maintain constant, but weak, telepathic and empathic contact with those around him, thus brightening even the gloomiest of days.
But there is, of course, a flipside. Erik can slightly manipulate bad moods as well. If Erik loses focus for too long, he can inject bad moods into those around him. But overall, Erik usually feels mostly neutral or happy most of the time. Erik is not one to shoulder any kind of responsibility for those around him, only for himself. Erik spends a lot of time enjoying recreational activities, and so his knowledge of things like book smarts is quite low. He does however display great street smarts. At times, Erik can be quite naive in his attempts to carry out his duties and his personal life. He is able to make friends easily, but has great difficulty in keeping and maintaining any kind of relationships with others.
Erik simply wants to explore as much of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant as possible, and perhaps a little more beyond that too. Erik has absolutely no aspirations to command right now; he’s still quite young and doesn’t want to put other people in jeopardy for his future potential mistakes. Erik wants to discover a new star system and name it the “Vargesson System”.
Hobbies & Interests
Hobbies: Collecting relics, artifacts, and other souvenirs from his adventures.
Interests: Archaeology and Anthropology, Sports, and other leisure activities.
Erik was born on the planet Betazed in the capital city of Rixx in the Federation year of 2369 to his wonderful and loving parents. Both his mother and father worked as politicians on Betazed. They belonged to the Fourth House of Betazed, held the Holy Rings of Betazed, and were the heir to the Sacred Chalice of Rixx. They worked in tandem with all the other houses to continue to secure a bright and prosperous future for Betazed as a whole.
Due to his parents’ responsibilities external to the family, Erik had a few nannies to help him grow into maturity. His parents were definitely distant, but absolutely not uncaring. They showered him with love and affection whenever the opportunity presented itself. However, they weren’t able to go on family vacations or the like very much if at all. All attempts to do so were cut short by work emergencies of varying sorts. Thus, Erik wasn’t able to explore a whole lot during his childhood.
However, as soon as Erik graduated from secondary high school with above average grades in all his courses, his parents insisted that he follow in their footsteps and were able to secure for him a two-year internship with the Betazed government. The first year serving in a diplomatic capacity on Betazed itself, and the second being more of an unofficial ambassadorial role with planets close to Betazed, but never Earth itself.
On his twentieth year of life, Erik had finally completed his internship and was of legal age according to Betazoid laws to make his choices in life. He was fed up with the political work that he believed was forced upon him, and decided to choose a life in Starfleet for himself. Upset with their son’s decision, Erik’s parents simply chose to communicate with his less often than normal. They literally felt the spark of rebelling inside their son, and decided that Erik probably needed his space to explore not only space itself, but also himself too.
Starfleet Academy was an excellent experience for the young man. Even though Erik has taken a two-year gap period, Starfleet dutifully welcomed him into their embrace and began his training. For the next two years, Erik had to complete all the required courses for basic officers to undertake. During this happenstance, Erik was able to completely explore all the regions of the Earth and all that the wonderful planet had to offer young people. Of course, this was only during his off-time, but that didn’t stop Erik from taking any last minute excursions with friends if he felt it necessary. As a result, sometimes the homework assignments such as essays and labs weren’t submitted on time, ensuring the ire of some of his instructors for sure.
In Erik’s last two years at the Academy, he chose to specialize in flight control. He received the ace pilot medal for starships, shuttles, and runabouts, but couldn’t quite handle all that starfighters had to offer, and so he was directed down the Flight Control path instead of Aerospace. Erik also specialized in astrophysics and astrometry. Suffice to say, he was guaranteed to be an excellent asset to have aboard any starship, particularly on the bridge at the helm.
