History

Childhood

Garrett Rosa de Sanchez was born on October 19th, 2346 in Madrid, Spain to Rosa and Martino Sanchez. He is an only child as Rosa could no longer bear children after the birth of their only son Garrett. His childhood was rather easy going, but as he grew older he quickly began to realize his dream. He wanted to travel the stars, or at least have the opportunity to do so, and he was very driven in succeeding in his goal allowing nothing to get in his way, and nothing to chance. He was told by many of his instructors that he would never succeed which made him that much more driven to do what he’d set out to do. His teenage years were rough especially as people continued to berate him and make things difficult. However, he remained driven and upon his eighteenth birthday with the goal of proving them all wrong he applied for Starfleet Academy and passed the test with one of the highest marks ever seen.

Starfleet Career

Following the four years that he was a student at the academy, an uneventful time in his life, he was assigned to the U.S.S. Rutledge as a Tactical/Security Officer and promoted to the rank of Ensign. It would be where he would see some combat actions during the Dominion War and quickly gained a good reputation for making certain his people got out of tight situations. Almost a year into the war the deputy department head was killed in action, and Garrett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and made the deputy department head. However, a situation would leave him scarred for the rest of his life.

While on patrol the U.S.S. Rutledge came under attack near the end of the war in the year 2374 by two Jem’Hadar attack ships. During the attack the ship was boarded and engineering quickly became overwhelmed by intruders. Garrett was one of the officers charged with protecting the vital portion of his ship and he intended on going down fighting. He was hit multiple times by fire, but chose to press forward with the defense fighting until only he and a small team remained alive. Nobody is certain where the explosion came from, however it killed most of the attackers and some of the defenders. Garrett took severe shrapnel wounds to his left leg which destroyed the muscle tissue as well as much of his knee. Having survived the attack the ship managed to limp to the nearest starbase to undergo repairs while the wounded were treated.

Garrett was laid up for nearly a year, and was even told he may be forced into retirement, however he managed to sustain just enough ability to walk that he was not forced to leave. However, the damage left a permanent reminder of the trauma, and he was forced to use a cane to walk for the rest of his life. It was this wound as well as his determination that led to his promotion to Lieutenant and a transfer to the U.S.S. Reagan to serve as the Chief T/S Officer. He struggled with several tasks and was even close to retirement until he met Captain William Toa who offered him a position as an Executive Officer two years after they had met. His track record for getting things done was quickly recognized and he was promised the chance at command all he had to do was stay on the Yangley for a while to build command experience.

His promotion to Lieutenant Commander as well as his dedication to service in the face of the many dangers he’d dealt with throughout the Dominion War led to his chance. Now after years of dealing with the injuries that should have left him without his career he has finally been offered a command of his own. Will he shine or will he crack under the pressure, only time can tell.
