Revision as of 05:38, 26 January 2013

Featured articles are articles which represent the best that Pegasus Fleet Wiki has to offer. Featured articles are supposed to be examples of Pegasus Fleet Wiki's best work, and are showcased on the main page. They are especially well-written, informative, and comprehensive articles that cover all available information on a subject.

Note: A featured article should not be used as a way to showcase the articles of your favourite characters or ships

So what criteria must a featured article meet before it can be nominated?

An article must...

  • be well written
  • be comprehensive (as detailed and complete as possible)
  • be unbiased and encyclopaedic in style (non-point of view)
  • be undisputed and stable (not be the object of any ongoing edit wars or tagged with any improvement tags)
  • have a succinct proper lead that can be used for the main page featured box
  • have a reasonable amount of red links, if any at all
  • not have been previously featured

For more information on what makes a featured article, see Wikipedia:What is a featured article.

How to nominate:

  1. To nominate an article you find is worthy of featured status, add it to the bottom of the list below "Featured article nominations" using the template provided; see criteria above for what constitutes a featured article. If you are nominating an article that you have created or that you have worked on, please note that the nomination is a self-nomination.
  2. Others will object to the nomination if they disagree that the article is good enough; they will then supply reasons for doing so, and ways to improve the article (errors, style, organization, images, notability, sources).
  3. Supporters adjust the article until the objectors (with reasonable objections) are satisfied.
  4. The article is placed on the featured article list and added to the front page queue.
  5. Once an article has been nominated for a minimum of one week, and has 3 supports and no objections, it will be added to the queue, and will be officially known as a "featured article"

Sample format:

=== [[Article Name]] ===
[[File:image.jpg|thumb|left|150px]] '''Nominated by:''' --~~~~
{{clear}}

How to vote:

  1. When you are commenting on a nomination, please be sure to take the time to read the entire article before you decide whether to Support or Oppose the nomination, keeping a sharp eye out for mistakes.
  2. Afterwards, compare the article to the criteria listed above, and then either support or object the article's nomination, using the template responses below.
  3. If you object, please supply concrete reasons for doing so, and how it can be improved.
  4. As stated above, any objections will be looked upon by the nominator, supporters, and anyone willing to improve the article, and action will be taken to please the objectors.
  5. Once all objectors' complaints have been solved (or the article has 3 supports and no objections after at least a week), the article will be added to the queue and be officially known as a "featured article".

Showing support or objecting:

* '''Strong Support''' - A comment/reasoning behind why you are showing strong support --~~~~
* '''Support''' - A comment/reasoning behind why you are showing support --~~~~
* '''Weak Support''' - A comment/reasoning behind why you are showing weak support --~~~~
* '''Strong Object''' - A comment/reasoning behind why you are strongly objecting --~~~~
* '''Object''' - A comment/reasoning behind why you are objecting --~~~~
* '''Weak Object''' - A comment/reasoning behind why you are weakly objecting --~~~~

Also remember to add {{Nominated}} at the top of the article you are nominating.

Every quarter the next article in the queue will be highlighted on the Main Page as featured, marked with the featured article icon and removed from the list of nominations. The beginning of the article then appears on the Main Page via the {{Featured article}} template. Nominees that are inactive for a month can be eliminated from the nominations list.

Self-Nomination

  • Weak Object - There's a lot of great info here, to be sure. Other than a small correction (capitalize Human), and my opinion that the (Species, Gender) listings for individuals named should have the gender spelled out (i.e. Male instead of M). I also think that in the name of Ft Patton it should be spelled out as Fort Patton, and Colonel instead of Col. Otherwise, as I said, the quality of the info is there, but the grammar errors keep this from being what I'd suggest as the top article of its kind without some work. Also, perhaps most significantly, the Tellarite colony section needs to be listed as a full heading, above the Marine Base. And really, this article is more about the Auron Colony than SB14; I would suggest more info on the Starbase itself, as that is the supposed focus of the article - at this time, I cannot throw my support behind this as a featured article. I apologize.--Captain Kejal Buris 05:28, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Weak Support - This Article still need to be updated to its Current stature here in Pegasus Fleet. If it wasn't for that I would have given a stronger vote. --Terris 00:02, 18 December 2012 (EST)
Weak Support - This Article is now up to date however she is no longer the Commanding Officer of the Niagara nor an active character in the fleet. If no one objects to highlighting past characters than I fully support this motion. --Vance 3:10, 2 January 2012 (MST)

  • Support - Decent article. Could do with being broken up into more sections or having some additional stuff like pictures or information aside from the history adding, but all of the basic information is there. ---Adm Sanchez 18:15, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Object - This may one of the better crew articles, but there are a few remaining points. Being the best of the bad does not measure up to being the worst of the good. The quote that jumps out is the "Starfleet Command'd radar" error. Outside of that, I cannot support an article to be shown as one of the best in the Fleet when the character described within has been demoted and then transferred from the Fleet. Active characters only should be featured, I'm sorry. --Captain Kejal Buris 05:38, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Support - Decently written article, and very informative ---Adm Sanchez 18:15, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Support - Nicely written. Just need to de-cludder all the links in one link for the featured link and it will look good. -- Terris 20:50, 20 January 2013 (EST)

Weak Support - This Article still need to be updated to its Current stature here in Pegasus Fleet. If it wasn't for that I would have given a stronger vote. Also the Manifest and Vessel History are not up to date. --Terris 00:09, 18 December 2012 (EST)
- This Article is now up to date. --Vance 3:30, 2 January 2013 (MST)

  • Object - This reads more like a list than an article - there's no written history or information about the ship beyond the first line, and everything else is just a list of events or crew. I'd rather see paragraphs become more present and dominant in the article before supporting it for being featured. ---Adm Sanchez 18:15, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

- Unfortunately a full vessel history will be tough as I was not the sim's original Commanding Officer. Half of those listed items were not created by me. I came onboard during the Collector mission which as you can see if quite a bit after the vessel's maiden voyage. I'll let you guys make the call what to do here. ---Vance

Marine Commanding Officer

Nominated by: Enor

Strong Support - This Article is filled out and up to date. --Terris 00:010, 18 December 2012 (EST)

  • Object - Too short, in my opinion. I know that there's only so much that we can write about the MCO position (without applying a lot more imagination), but it just doesn't seem long enough to be considered a 'featured article'. ---Adm Sanchez 18:15, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

- This was listed here as a Featured Article for the Positions Portal. It was not intended to be on the front page. Also, this is among the longest of the positions articles and the Commanding Officer article is not longer than this one and it is on the portal now.
