The USS Thames (NCC-80629) is an Norway-class starship commissioned in 2388 under the command of Captain Vandal sh'Raazni. The ship was assigned to the Eleventh Fleet with a mission to protect Federation interests, to help those in need, and to deepen Starfleet's understanding of the region known as Galactic South.

Captain Vandal sh'Raazni became the Thames' first Commanding Officer upon the vessel's completion. An accomplished strategist, sh'Raazni could quickly assess any situation and determine an appropriate course of action. She played an important role in leading her crew through the Sojourner Crisis as well as the non-combat operations that followed. This did not go unnoticed. After overseeing two tours of duty between 2388 and 2392, sh'Raazni was given command of the Class TBD Ship Name TBD.

Commander Cassius Whittemore is only the second individual to have served as Commanding Officer of the Thames. He was appointed as part of the transitional period following the reassignment of Captain sh'Raazni. Despite having been temporally displaced from the 23rd century, Starfleet felt Whittemore's dedication to communication and understanding before resorting to unnecessary force made him an ideal candidate for the position. He underwent a complete debriefing and re-acclimation program, was certified for active duty, and officially assumed command in late 2392.
