The USS New York was a Nova-class Federation starship that was in operation in the latter-half of the 24th century.
History
In 2378, Commander Benjamin J. Byrne was given command of this vessel, a post he held for 8 years.
Attacked and severely damaged by an wanted criminal near nebula the ship was studying in 2386, the ship had to be abandoned when the volatile gases in the nebula were ignited, causing severe damage to the ship and leading to a warp core breach. Byrne was able to get almost all of his crew off the ship in escape pods before it exploded. Because the loss of a starship is a court martial offence, Byrne was court-martialed for the loss of the New York, but he was absolved of all charges.
