An orbital view of Trilar

Physiology

A standard Trilark stands anywhere from 140 to 170 centimeters tall (4 1/2 to 5 1/2 feet Imperial) and can weigh anywhere from two to five hundred pounds when outside an Encounter Suit. Internally, their organ structure is part of their fluid mass, generating semi-solid organs and structures when needed for purposes such as digestion. Despite the lack of obvious ocullar or auditory organs, Trilark have no difficulty seeing or hearing, and are comparable to a Terran Human in regards to hearing or visual acuity. Their tactile sense is incredibly sharp, over a hundred times Terran standard, though their olfactory nerve cluster is practically non-existent, resulting in muted senses of taste or smell. The Trilark species has two genders and reproduces via sexual reproduction. After fertilization, the female houses the developing Trilark within her for three standard months, after which time a bud is produced and breaks off, to develop externally for the remainder of their eight month development cycle. Trilark are born in full control of their fluidic form.

Government

The Trilark governing system is known as the Grand Panel. They are expert scientists from various fields of study, voted to sit on the Panel and guide their people. To be considered for the Grand Panel is an honor. They operate like any other democratic system, except that only scientists can hold office.

Society

Trilark society is centered around the concepts of minimal ecological impact. A new technology must be studied and its effects on the environment must be fully nuanced before it can be introduced into society as a whole. Often times, a piece of technology will be improved upon by its designer well before the initial draft was approved for use.

Economy

Trilark economics are odd, as they cater to two currencies. The first is a physical currency called the Shoal and the second is the concept of using ideas and concepts for currency. A debate between two Trilark could very well be a debt collection in process.

The Shoal has a value set by the society, but primarily it exists only to trade with external races.

Understandably, ideas and concepts aren't publicly traded, but the Trilark Shoal is traded on the Dalacari Galactic Exchange. For more information, consult the primer on Currencies of the Delta Quadrant

Family

Trilark families are very close, as Trilarks must petition for permission to produce offspring. Population control is extremely important to the environmentally focused species. If a population seems to be getting too massive, exocolonization is often the solution. A new colony to support a new population.

Religion

Science is the only religion for the Trilark. They recognize other species’ need to grasp at concepts to explain impossible questions, but the Trilark believe that no question is truly without answer.

Language

The Trilark language is literally impossible to produce to solid life. To facilitate communication, and co-existence with solid life, Trilark encounter suits translate the burbles and bubbles of Trilark speech to meaningful audio.

Food and Entertainment

Trilark foodstuffs consist of various algae and plankton mixes combined with local sea life. Trilark art comes in the forms of plays, poetry, and aesthetic design. Physical artwork, such as sculptures and paintings, are almost unheard of. The closest Trilarkian artwork comes to sculpture is in architectural design, both in structures and starcruisers. Trilark music sounds best, oddly enough, underwater, so to be enjoyed in an aerial atmosphere, the playback device should be submerged in no less then a foot of water.

Science and Technology

Trilarkian technology evolved in stages, dealing with two modes of thought. Some Trilark technology is capable of being manipulated by their base fluid forms, while others were designed around the need for a physical form. The single greatest innovation of Trilark science is the Encounter Suit

The Encounter Suit is a bipedal suit designed to house the fluid form of a Trilark and can operate for, effectively, an indefinite amount of time provided routine maintenance is followed. The inhabiting Trilark flows to fill the suit, and then by act of motion, the suit responds accordingly and allows for heavy labor without full exertion.

The Trilark Encounter Suit Mark VII is built around a standard Terran Human aesthetic design, and comes equipped with a vocabulator capable of translating the native Trilark speech into Galactic Standard. As versatility is a common theme among all Trilark technological advances, the Mark VII is designed to be "upgrade friendly". For the purposes of uniformity, all Trilark Mark VII Encounter Suits are designed to stand a full even 180 Centimeters (Approx 5' 10" tall Imperial). Each Encounter Suit weighs roughly one hundred pounds, empty.

Trilark starcraft are solid-construction vessels, utilizing advanced ion-based fuel sources. While cleaner to the surrounding environs, the ion-based reactor is only capable of propelling a Trilark craft to Warp 3.4. Their inertial dampening technology at the time has since been rated to be sufficient for Warp 3.6.

Trilark spacecraft are atmosphere worthy, but are incapable of landing on land. They are certified for water or fluid landings only.

Trilark weaponry takes two approaches: Space based, and personal. Trilark utilized sound-based weaponry on a personal level, for applications such as crowd control or pollution dispersal. On a narrow projection, the beam of visible sonic energy is comparable in damage to a Mark I Phaser. Physical projectile weapons have never been researched by Trilark minds, as their application would be pointless.

Physical projectiles, though, were applied to their space craft. Solid fuel missiles with low-yield alpha-band warheads are the standard armament for Trilark starcraft. As sonic weaponry is useless in the vacuum of space, Trilark starships adapted a form of projected energy weapon to use in such an environment. Within an atmosphere, Trilark ships use the same sonic projection weapons that would be used on a personal scale, simply elevated up.

Military

Trilark military is volunteer based, and has the full backing of the scientific mind of the Grand Panel in times of need.
