The Miranda class vessel is a Federation Destroyer developed in the 23rd century. The Miranda class was used through the 24th Century.

General Overview

These are the specifications for the standard rollbar-equipped Miranda. Rollbar contains two forward torpedo launchers, two aft torpedo launchers and torpedo storage. In 2276, the last of the Surya Class Frigates were converted to the Avenger Class configuration. However, these vessels had already been in service for nearly forty years. Numerous advances in weapons, sensor, and starship design technologies had all but made the Old Tech vessels obsolete. As such, Starfleet Command drafted plans to produce a new starship based on the Avenger design. This new Class would include all of the latest technologies, advances in warp drive theory, and starship hull design. In addition, the new ships would be highly mission adaptable, with gamma-welded bulkheads being replaced with modular mission compartments throughout the ship's internal volume. In the years to come, all Starfleet vessels would share this design element. In 2279, the first Miranda Class Light Cruiser, designed to be the companion vessel to the Constitution II Heavy Cruiser, was launched, heralding the beginning of an extensive production and operational life. The Miranda Class has had a longer operational life than any other Starfleet vessel. Three hundred and five ships were constructed over the course of nearly five decades, resulting in numerous variants and modifications. Over the course of nearly a century of operational activity, no two Miranda Class starships are completely alike. Typically heavily armed and equipped with extensive labs and sensors, Miranda Class ships are capable of performing any task the Sector Command can through at them. Mirandas suffered terribly during the Dominion War, with 77 vessels lost to combat. However, this does not reflect a flaw in the light cruiser, but to what degree they were employed across all fronts. Despite heavy losses and many vessels having been decommission in favor of newer designs, there are still 108 Miranda Class ships on operational status across Federation space.
